Mechanical 3D Designer Drafter Consultant
I am an individual professional in Mechanical Design and Drafting. I have experience creating 3D models in Solidworks and then converting them to 2D orthographic working drawings with full ANSI specifications. I have 30 years of professional experience in Mechanical and Structural design/drafting. In addition, I create professional 3D rendering and animations. I primarily use Solidworks 2020 for all design and drafting work including renderings and animations. I have worked and/or worked on many undisclosed projects using Solidworks.
Summary of Qualifications:
Experienced and trained in all phases of drafting and design, including implementing drawing packages from concept to product release. Experience in layout work in both structural and mechanical. Conform to ANSI Y14.5 including Geometric Tolerance and AISC standard drafting practices. Technical Engineering knowledge: Static stress analysis computations, Trigonometric and Geometric calculations, and Torque and Horsepower calculations. General knowledge of engineering statics, dynamics, and other engineering principles.
Proficient in Windows based PC programs:
• Solidworks 2020 (13 years experience) (CSWA) & PDM
• Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook.
Professional Experience:
August 2010- Present (13 years) Martin Design and Drafting Consulting
http://www.martindesignconsult.com
Present design projects: I am currently working on a new electric scooter bike design that is patent pending and will be available for purchase to the public in the near future. I have helped many other individual inventors and small companies with design projects and drafting for manufacturing.
Oct 2012- Nov 2012 (5 weeks) Aries Consulting, San Jose, CA
Solidworks Drafter (Temp Contract Work)
I worked with a team of Engineers and Drafters on critical components for a water desalination project (undisclosed). Solidworks 2012 was used for creating models and drawings. This project is mechanical in nature with critical dimensional tolerances and GD&T.
Sept 2011 (4 weeks), CNG-Design LLC, San Jose, CA
Solidworks 3D Modeler/ Mechanical Drafter (Temp Contract Work)
CNG Design hired me as a temp position working on an exciting new energy efficient internal combustion engine project. This design is mechanical in nature and will greatly benefit the automotive industry among other gas powered applications. Experience includes Solidworks modeling of spur gears, track rollers, pins, complex crankshaft, and internal combustion engine parts. Tolerance analysis was critical in this project. Detailed drawings of machining parts were created. This is a prototype project in which precision was the priority. Solidworks animation was the final step for marketing purposes.
Dec 2007 - Sept 2010 (2 years), Goodman Ball Inc., Menlo Park, CA
3D Modeler/ Mechanical Drafter (Consultant)
Goodman Ball engineers and manufactures military applications particularly backup generators and water purifiers. Experience includes Autocad drawings and 3D models of steel welded frames, sheet metal, ball valves, couplings, steel castings, and brackets for hydraulics components. Autocad work included part and assembly drawings with BOM and exploded views. Example project: mobile hydraulic tank on wheels.
Jan 2006 - Feb 2007 (1 year), Bowman and Williams, Santa Cruz, CA
Civil Drafter
http://www.bowmanandwilliams.com
Created topographic maps for private and public use. Survey data and GIS are used for creation. Autocad land desktop for the primary tool.
Feb 1997-Dec 2004 (8 years), Chance-Morgan Coasters Inc., La Selva Beach, CA
Designer/ Structural Drafter
Design experience: Worked on amusement park rides, primarily roller coasters. Responsible for layout and detailing of massive track supports which are both columns and towers which are placed in reference to the topographic map and architectural drawings. Layout work is done in 3D Autocad, structural use wire frames, and mechanical components use solid models. Drafting work is normally done in standard orthographic projection. Successively completed five major hypercoasters, one Kiddy Coaster, two Carousels, and one Rocket Ride.
Nov 1989 - Feb 1997 (7 years), TLD Lantis, Salinas, CA
Mechanical Designer/ Drafter
Design experience: Prototypes in Airline Cargo Conveying Equipment, such designs call for major frame structures under heavy loads, precision machining, jig fixtures, structural steel, welding, shearing, thermal and plasma cutting, punching, precision drilling, forming materials, bolted assemblies, power transmission components, and hydraulic motors and cylinders. Designing involves; conceptualization, design reviews, selecting diverse raw materials, static stress analysis, working with vendors for various components, checking feasibility, and documentation. Ultimately created a new product line for Airline ground support equipment.
